Born in Saint Michael and raised in Bridgetown, Barbados, Rihanna auditioned for American record producer Evan Rogers who invited her to the United States to record demo tapes. She was signed to Def Jam in 2005 and quickly became a household brand when she released her first two studio albums, Music of the Sun (2005), as well as A Girl Like Me (2006). Both albums were influenced by Caribbean music and made it to the top ten spots on the US Billboard 200 charts. The third album by Rihanna, Good Girl Gone Bad (2007) included elements of dance-pop , and established her place as a sexual icon in the world of music. The single that topped the charts "Umbrella" was the single that earned Rihanna her first Grammy Award and catapulted her into international fame. Her subsequent album, a studio one Rated R (2010) and Loud (2010) and Talk That Talk (2011), continued her blend of R&B and pop. Unapologetic (2012) was her first Billboard 200 top-ten album. The albums spawned a string of chart-topping hits, including "Rude Boy", "Only Girl (In the World)", "What's My Name? ", "S&M", "We found Love" & "Diamonds". Her eighth album, Anti (2016), showed a fresh approach to creativity following her exile from Def Jam. It reached the top spot in the US and also featured "Work" which was her top charting single. Rihanna has been in close contact with numerous artists throughout her music career. With sales of over 250 million records around the world, Rihanna is the second-best-selling female artist ever. She has been a top-ten performer with 14 numbers and 31 top ten singles in the US and 30 top-ten singles in the UK. Nine Grammy Awards, 13 American Music Awards including the Icon Award, 12 Billboard Music Awards along with six Guinness World Records and the NAACP's President's Award are just a couple of her achievements. Time listed her as among the top 100 most influential individuals worldwide in both 2012 and in 2018. Forbes classified her as one of the top 10 most-paid celebrities in 2012/2014. In 2022 she's the richest female singer, with an estimated total net worth of $1.4 billion. [5][6]
