
DeWitt started performing on stage when she was 13. At the age of 13 Dewitt started performing on the stage. She earned the Bachelor of Arts degree from Ball State University. When she performed in her summer stock she was encouraged by the director to enroll at UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was given the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt said that she had not had a conversation with Abe Vigoda during her time at UCLA. Dewitt's portrayal of Janet Wood in Three's Company's 1977-84 series is among her most famous. She was part of the show's pilot and got the job. Janet was also in an episode of The Ropers which she was a part in in 1979. DeWitt was the only actor to be featured in Three's Company's 1984 finale. She also appeared in an episode on Finder of Lost Lovers in 1984. Following that she stopped acting for a number of years. In June of 1991 she came back to acting when she played an in Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. Also, she played in Spring Fling a 1995 TV comedy. Pinky and the Brain aired in 1997 and featured a character based on her. The character was voiced in part by a different actress. She was also in an episode Cybill. [6] She has appeared on television shows such as Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special, and Call of the Wild in 2000.
