Harden was a student at Surrattsville High School in Clinton, Maryland after she decided to settle down. In 1980, she attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a bachelor's degree in acting. Harden was admitted to NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, in 1988, in order to earn her MFA.
