Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the United States. She's worked as an editor since the year 1995. She founded Feminist Frequency the website which hosts videos and commentary analyzing depictions of women's roles in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has been awarded awards for her work, is an activist blogger. She is the author and executive director of Feminist Frequency A scholarly non-profit site that examines the representation of women in popular media narratives. Dispelling stereotypes of women is the main goals of her work. But, she also explores the issue of specific harassment of women on the internet and other minorities who have been left out. With a master's in political and social thought at York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public presenter and has presented talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She was fascinated by the gender issue and feminist movements at a young time. In 2009, when she was in university she started her Feminist Frequency site. A woman with ambitions to start a web-series examining the gender representation of video games was targeted in the internet campaign. It was not enough to stop her. It actually made her more committed as a feminist and media critique. The award-winning journalist has received numerous accolades to recognize her significant contributions to the world of feminism.
